Pulse Training Solutions

NEW FOR 2009 BTEC Level 5 Diploma in Sport and Remedial Massage

Pulse Training Solutions is now teaching the BTEC Level 5 diploma, providing students with the skills necessary to work as autonomous practitioners.  On completion of this course the student will be able to apply for full Level 4 membership of both the Sports Massage Association and the Institute of Sport & Remedial Massage.

The course teaches all the essential skills including general massage techniques, soft tissue release, muscle energy technique and neuromuscular techniques necessary to become competent at treating a wide variety of musculoskeletal problems ranging from common postural dysfunction to sports injuries.  Level 5 provides the student with a greater understanding of the underpinning knowledge necessary to correctly apply these techniques to the patient.  As part of the course students will cover postural assessment and joint assessments – both vital components in drawing up treatment plans.

At PTS we pride ourselves on offering a good tutor to student ratio with a maximum of 12 students per tutor during all practical sessions, allowing more time to spend with each student in developing the hand skills necessary to become a competent practitioner.  As a small training company, the more personalised service that PTS offers allows for greater flexibility, enabling students to move between courses should this become necessary.  This has proved particularly popular with military students who have found themselves unexpectedly deployed mid-course.

Ian McLoughlin, BSc Hons MCSP HPC MSMA – Chartered Physiotherapist

"The course has changed the way in which I work as a physiotherapist. I use the techniques and skills which I acquired on a daily basis and have had excellent results."

Prior to choosing a course I considered the curriculum of several other courses, but eventually decided on this particular one as it was the most extensive in terms of range of techniques taught.

The group was composed of 20 students from various backgrounds and experience. There was a South African pig farmer, an MSc student in sport rehabilitation, several personal trainers, a couple of masseurs, various office workers and myself, a Chartered Physiotherapist specialising in musculoskeletal injuries.

Some people were relatively new to massage while others had a lot of experience in massage and in the treatment and prevention of sports injuries. Some students had experience of working with Premiership and International footballers, others had worked with County Cricket teams. The main reason why people who were well experienced were taking this course was because it is one of only a handful of massage courses which are Sports Massage Association (SMA) approved. For anybody who is serious about sports massage or wants to be involved in massage at a professional, international or world class level, an SMA approved course is now the required standard.

The course content was extensive, up to date and of a high standard. It was taught in a professional but relaxed manner. The tutors were knowledgeable, friendly and approachable. There was a good tutor to pupil ratio during practical sessions and information was pitched at a level relevant to the particular student. Practical sessions and examinations were conducted in a friendly and informal atmosphere.

As a group we had a lot of laughs and bonded well. I met some very colourful and interesting people and made some good friends. Irrespective of their background or experience everybody got something out of this course.

Personally, I thought the course was excellent and I really enjoyed it. It is hard work but you get out what you put in. It is important that you get as much practical experience between weekends as possible as this helps consolidate the newly acquired skills.  It has changed the way in which I work as a physiotherapist. I use the techniques and skills which I acquired on a daily basis and have had excellent results. I thoroughly recommend this course.
