September 2004 saw the hosting of the second Annual Sports Massage Association and SportEX Conference at the NEC in Birmingham. This conference was billed as 'a multi disciplinary approach to sports performance and sports massage'.

Just over 300 delegates attended and were divided into 8 groups. Over the course of the day each group took part in 3 large seminar sessions and 4 smaller workshop sessions.

Paul Turner, the principal tutor at Pulse Training Solutions, delivered one of the practical workshops entitled 'Sports Massage of the Foot'. This workshop was particularly well received by a number of physiotherapists and sports massage practitioners. Paul was assisted by Sian Cooper, who was at the Olympic Games in Athens during the summer. She commented that many of the athletes particularly wanted to have their feet massaged.

Other topics covered in the smaller workshops were:

Trigger points - Viv Lancey
Positional release techniques - Mel Cash and Tanya Ball
Taping and strapping - Joan Watt and David Edge
Sports massage of the foot - Paul Turner and Sian Cooper

There were also longer lectures given by Dr Greg Whyte, Stuart Robinson and Joanne Elphinston.

The whole day was a great success and I am sure everyone will be looking forward to next year.
