Learn the art of Traditional Thai yoga massage. Two one-day workshops designed to introduce you to some of the skills used in this ancient healing practice. Over 2,000 years old, Thai massage is a combination of acupressure, massage and applied yoga stretches. Applied through clothing and traditionally carried out on the floor, this incredibly effective form of massage can be practised anywhere, without the need of equipment or lotions.
Each day has been developed to teach Thai massage techniques relevant to sports massage therapists. Specifically you will learn:
- how to use your body as a counterbalance for deeper stretches
- how to use feet and knees as well forearms, elbows and hands – great for conserving your energy whilst working at a deeper level
- how to incorporate new stretches alongside others you’re familiar with, flowing from one part of the body to another
- techniques that can be used in a pre or post event routine
Part 1: Thai massage for clients in supine and seated positions
Part 2: Thai massage for clients in side-lying and prone positions
Each day can be done separately in any order
Our tutor, Kathryn Ellis, has been practising yoga for 12 years and first came across Thai massage at the end of a yoga class in 2004. Captivated by the graceful, dance-like and flowing movements of both giver and receiver, Kathryn decided to attend some weekend workshops in Thai massage. She then went on to study to practitioner level (RTT), and subsequently qualified as a sports and remedial massage therapist (BTEC Dip PTS). She has introduced many of her sports massage clients to the benefits of Thai massage. They usually find it a great way to increase range of movement and increase/maintain flexibility, enabling them to train harder without injury.
Kathryn runs regular workshops in Thai massage and also co-teaches a Diploma course in Thai massage (practitioner and advanced practitioner level).
